International experts recognized Skynet the fastest Internet in Lithuania

Published: 3 February 2016 y., Wednesday

International independent Internet speed testing company Ookla published the List of Internet service providers offering the fastest Internet connection. The top rating went to a company Penkių Kontinentų Komunikacijų Centras providing fiber-optic Internet Skynet. For several subsequent years (2012–2014), the network was recognized as that offering the fastest Internet connection in the country by an online speed test system Net Index.

According to the latest data of Ookla, the average download speed in Skynet is 804.09 Mb/s and the upload speed is 837.46 Mb/s. Skynet connection speed is 8 times higher than that of the Internet service provider that took the second position on the list.

According to Robertas Ragauskas, Deputy Commercial Director of UAB Penkių Kontinentų Komunikacijų Centras, Internet connection speed is one of the most important factors determining the choice of the service provider by both private and business clients. “Today, people are no longer able to survive a minute without the Internet. They use it to send text messages, pictures, videos, to participate in video conferences and watch online broadcasts. The speed has to be as high as possible to ensure stable and fast transmission of video content. We are sure that the Internet connection speed cannot fall behind the fast pace of modern life”, said R. Ragauskas.

Speed test system developed by Ookla performs about 5 million speed tests every day ordered by Internet users from all over the world using different devices.

Skynet is the first fiber-optic network in Lithuania that was launched almost two decades ago and is now used by over 119 thousand households in Vilnius. Currently, data transmission speed in Skynet in Lithuania is up to 1 Gb/s, and in foreign networks – 500 Mb/s.
