Lithuanian banking technology solutions at the Belarusian forum BankIT 2014

Published: 2 December 2014 y., Tuesday

The delegation of the group of companies Penki kontinentai visited Minsk, where the 11th International Forum BankIT 2014 was held. During the forum, specialists of the group of companies ASHBURN International (ASHBURN) and Penkių kontinentų bankinės technologijos (BS/2) presented new banking solutions and shared their experience.

According to Sergei Dubkov, the Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus, the Belarusian banking sector is currently going through great changes. In order to remain competitive both in their own country and in the international market, the banks have to be flexible, mobile and technologically advanced. Knowing this, the country’s National Bank places particular emphasis on development of specialized technological solutions, electronic and mobile banking, and competence of IT specialists working for the bank departments.

According to Nikolajus Zaleščukas, the Regional Manager of the company BS/2 that has been operating in the Belarusian banking sector through its affiliates IBA Group and Tussi for nearly two decades, the Belarusian banks actively apply modern technologies in their business and value the opportunities they offer. “Over the last two years the information technology costs of banks operating in Belarus nearly doubled. It is predicted that in 2014 these numbers will increase by nearly 40 percent.  By investing in both hardware and software solutions, banks show that they do understand the significance of technological benefits and intend to use those to the full. It is predicted that in 2014 productivity of the Belarusian IT services sector will increase by 24 percent and will exceed 1 billion US dollars. BS/2 also contributes to these processes by supplying modern banking equipment and integrating the specialized programming solution family .iQ designed for the financial sector”, said N. Zaleščukas.

At this year’s BankIT forum, special attention was given the Belarusian electronic payments market development. According to ASHBURN Executive Director Žoržas Šarafanovičius, who also participated in the event, this topic is very important to both banks and the country’s fast-growing retail sector. “At the beginning of 2014, there were 81.5 thousand payment terminals in Belarus. The National Bank of Belarus plans to have twice as much by 2016. This results in rapid growth of demand for payment solutions. ASHBURN, the company with many years of experience in the field of payment card maintenance in the Baltic States, introduced the forum participants to the software package TransLink.iQ, which ensures safe and expeditious processing of banking operations. In addition, we introduced a universal payment and loyalty management system PayLo, which includes all stages of the loyalty program installation and maintenance”, said Ž. Šarafanovičius.

The BankIT forum attracted over 1,200 participants from seventeen countries from around the world. Among the event participants were representatives of the banking sector, IT companies and government institutions. The forum was organized by the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus, the Scientific and Technological Association Infopark and Association of Belarusian Banks.
