Lithuanians Opt For High-Speed Fiber Optic Internet and IPTV

Published: 13 September 2019 y., Friday

According to the Lithuanian Communications Regulatory Authority, the number of fiber optic Internet users in the country is constantly growing. At the end of June 2019, it reached 588.3 thousand. The growth for the year is 2.8 percent (16.1 thousand users).

The development of fiber-optic networks testifies to the preference of Lithuanian residents for high-speed Internet using fixed broadband access to the network.

Interactive IPTV services (using the internet protocol) are also becoming increasingly popular. In the second quarter of 2019, the number of subscribers increased by 2 percent, and over the year - by 12.5, reaching 270.9 thousand.

In Lithuania, the era of fiber-optic Internet began on October 28, 1998, when Penkių kontinentų komunikacijų centras was the first company in Lithuania to offer its customers the fastest Internet. Today, most of Vilnius districts are connected to the Penki network. Since 2006, customers can order interactive IPTV services.
