Wincor Nixdorf and Mahindra Comviva partner to enable NFC and QR Code based transactions at the ATM with mobiquity Wallet

Published: 22 February 2016 y., Monday

Wincor Nixdorf, one of the leading providers of IT solutions to retail banks and Mahindra Comviva, the global leader in providing mobility solutions, have collaborated to enable seamless transaction experience at the ATM. With advent of this new solution, consumers using mobile wallets powered by Mahindra Comviva’s mobiquity wallet will be able to withdraw cash and top up their mobile wallets at the ATM by simply scanning or presenting a QR code or using their NFC-enabled mobile device. The solution will be presented at this year’s Mobile World Congress (at booth 5G51/HALL 5), showcasing how innovative ATM solutions can be integrated seamlessly into the mobile payments ecosystems. This solution is an ideal example of how electronic and cash payment transactions can be combined perfectly with each other and will extend benefits of HCE beyond the retail store.

Wincor Nixdorf offers an extensive server/client-based solution for the self-service channel with a vendor-neutral, open interface, the Open Wallet Interface. Mahindra Comviva supports Wincor Nixdorf’s Open Wallet Interface in order to enable mobile wallet users to make withdrawals and deposits at ATMs with their cell phone. Users can steer their own ATM transactions via mobiquity Wallet from Mahindra Comviva, which meet NFC (HCE) and QR code standards, and save time at the ATM by mobile pre-staging their cash transactions.

Commenting on the partnership, Srinivas Nidugondi, Senior VP and Head of Mobile Financial Solutions at Mahindra Comviva, said, “We are continuously innovating to ensure that the consumers get a seamless transaction experience. Collaboration with Wincor Nixdorf will help in boosting our consumer focus by enabling mobile wallet transactions at the ATM using new age technologies like NFC and QR code. The NFC offering will ride on our mobiquity Wallet’s HCE rails to enable secure communication between the consumer’s phone and the ATM through a token-based transaction. Our cooperation with Wincor Nixdorf is significant, because ATMs have been proven to be a secure, reliable and highly automated service channel.”

Hermann Salmen, Head of Mobile Financial Solutions at Wincor Nixdorf, said, “ATM networks as a sales and service channel will play an increasingly large role in the mobile wallet strategy of providers to deliver an omni-channel-experience and higher security in interacting with their customers.” He further added: “With standardized interfaces, such as the Open Wallet Interface for mobile wallet solutions, we make integration easier and support mobile money providers with extensive services – from installation to operation of complete ATM networks.”

Mobile payment solutions have seen widespread adoption globally. New market players from the telecommunications and FinTech sector are establishing themselves in markets that are now dominated by banks, offering their customers innovative, mobile transactions. That will give rise to new standards in digital payment transactions, such as NFC and HCE (host card emulation), with the potential to complement and in some cases substitute traditional card payment, as well as offering a quick, easy, secure and innovative means of withdrawing and depositing cash at automated teller machines.
