Discussions on the prospects of IP television set to be held in Vilnius

Published: 6 March 2012 y., Tuesday

From the 6th to the 9th of March this year, the international organisation the Open IPTV Forum (OIPF) uniting such market giants as Cisco, Motorola, Gemalto, Philips, Sun Microsystems, in cooperation with Penki Kontinentai group of companies is holding a conference and a symposium on IPTV (Internet Protocol Television). OIPF is an organisation creating common IPTV standards and contributing to the popularity and development of IP television. It was founded in March 2007 by such companies as Ericsson, France Telekom, Nokia, Siemens, Panasonic, Samsung, Sony and Telekom Italia. In 2011, Penki Kontinentai were the first among the Baltic countries to join the aforementioned organisation, and according to Idrakas Dadašovas, the chairman of the company’s board, it meant not only the recognition of the company but also a great opportunity to contribute to the development of IPTV service market.

From the 6th to the 8th of March, the members of the OIPF, in a closed event, will explore the IPTV service architecture, marketing, management topics, discuss the issues of work organisation and certification, and to will spend much time discussing the trends and prospects of the IPTV market. The event in Vilnius will see the participation of the representatives of such companies as Sony, Philips, Huawei Technologies, Deutsche Telekom, etc. Moreover, on the 9th of March, the OIPF and Penki Kontinentai will invite everyone who is willing to participate to a symposium to discuss on the today’s and tomorrow’s television. The symposium will be broadcasted live online >>>

In 1998, Penki Kontinentai were the first ones in Lithuania to start developing a fibre-optic Skynet network, and in 2007, started to provide IP television services via it. Today, the IPTV customers of this company are already enjoying not only regular but also HD and 3D definition channels. Whereas at the end of the last year, the creators of the channel Penki TV owned by the company aired the first Lithuanian broadcast “IT+” in the 3D format. It is noteworthy that besides regular TV services, IPTV customers have the opportunity to use many additional interactive features: to surf the internet, to play games on the TV screen, to record desired broadcasts and watch them at any desired time, to create a personal TV grid, to listen to favourite radio stations via TV, and to control and watch television on a mobile device, etc.

You can find more information about IP television in the book “Naujojo šimtmečio televizijos horizontai” (The television horizons of the new century) by the Penki Kontinentai specialists Tachmasibas Dadaševas and Saulius Paukštis published last year. This publication is available in the country’s main libraries or on e-bookstores.
