Russia Maintains Nuclear Ties with Iran and India
Russian engineers are already involved in the construction of one reactor there. Contracts will be signed with India at the end of this or early in the next year on the construction of five more nuclear energy blocks, Adamov told a meeting of the ministry collegium in Snezhinsk. Russia should act more vigorously on the world scene, Adamov said, calling on President-elect Vladimir Putin to propose "an international project for a safe nuclear fuel cycle." This sector's output should increase six- to eight-fold in five to ten years, while the export of the ministry's products will increase five-fold and the energy output by 80%, Adamov predicted. The commissioning of the first reactor in the Rostov nuclear power station will enable Russia to increase its energy exports, he said. Nearly $600 million worth of uranium fuel is currently exported per year, Adamov noted.
