Walesa against Poland in EU
"Personally I don't like it. But travelling around the world I see we don't have a choice. It is the evolution of civilization which demands it," said Walesa, cited by the PAP news agency. Since being ousted as president in 1995, Walesa has remained largely outside of politics and lived in Gdansk, where he led the shipyard union uprising which sparked the collapse of communism in Poland. A few months ago he announced plans to run for presidential elections due this year against Aleksander Kwasniewski, an ex-communist who beat him five years ago.
