Minister of National Defence meet with Chief of Defence Staff of Luxembourg
Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas met with the Chief of Defence Staff of Luxembourg Gen. Gaston Reinig and congratulated the country’s decision to join the EU monitoring mission (EUMM) in Georgia, September 30.
“As an active supporter of Georgia, Lithuania welcomes the EU's decision to send representatives of the majority of the EU countries, including Lithuania and Luxembourg, to Georgia in a civilian monitoring mission,” said J.Olekas.
The civilian EU monitoring mission is scheduled to start operating in Georgia on October 1. Lithuania has delegated 7 representatives to the mission: two of them will be employed in the mission hq and the team of the remaining five will do the observation. Luxembourg also contributes several representatives to the EUMM.
In the meeting Minister Olekas and Gen. Reinig also addressed participation in international operations, processes of transformation of the armed forces, and results of the NATO Defence Ministers’ meeting in London.
This is the first visit of the Chief of Defence Staff of Luxembourg in Lithuania. Defence Staff of Luxembourg is subordinate to the Directorate of Defence under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the country does not have a separate Defence Ministry.
