President Adamkus congratulates King Juan Carlos I of Spain on the National Day

President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus sent congratulations to His Majesty King Juan Carlos I of Spain on the occasion of the National Day.

President Adamkus wishes every success to the Spanish monarch and long years of prosperity and well-being to the state of Spain.

"I am happy about the increasingly strong political, economic and cultural relations between our states and the people-to-people contacts developed in the spirit of mutual trust and friendship. In the face of the current global challenges, we, members of the European Union and NATO, need to strengthen our unity and solidarity and develop cooperation on the issues of importance to our countries," President Adamkus writes in his letter of congratulations.

The Lithuanian leader writes he is looking forward to the visit of the King of Spain to Lithuania next spring which will definitely give a new impetus for yet closer relations between the two states.

Spain celebrates its National Day on 12 October.
