President Valdas Adamkus said good-bye to Portuguese Ambassador
The President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus received the Ambassador of Portugal Antonio Manuel Moreira Tanger Correa, finishing the second term of office as the Ambassador.
The President thanked the first ambassador of Portugal to reside in Lithuania for his personal contribution to closer bilateral relations between Lithuania and Portugal. The Head of State expressed confidence that the bilateral political and economic cooperation would be successfully continued in the future.
In the meeting, the President recalled warmly his state visit to Portugal last year which brought the two countries yet closer to each other and which opened up new opportunities for cultural, scientific, political and economic cooperation.
According to the President, Lithuania is grateful to Portugal for its successful presidency of the European Union in the second half of 2007 when the Lisbon Treaty was signed. As noted by the President, another very important success was the Portuguese SISone4all initiative which helped Lithuania to join the Schengen area last year.
The President and the Ambassador also discussed international political concerns, the European Union's Eastern neighborhood policy and the situation in the Western Balkans.
