Acting Prime Minister Kirkilas on a visit to Tartu

 

On Friday, 21 November, acting Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas is going to take part in the annual meeting of the Baltic Council of Ministers (BCM) to be held in Tartu, Estonia. Estonia has been holding a Presidency over the BCM this year.

On the eve of the meeting, 20 November, an informal meeting between the three Prime Ministers is to be held with a view to discuss an impact of the global financial crisis on the Baltic States, energy security, relations with Russia, the EU neighbourhood policy, situation in Georgia, European security architecture, and other topical issues.

On Friday, the BCM meeting is going to hear reports by the Committees of Senior Officials and approve conclusions submitted by Andrus Ansip, Prime Minister of Estonia, which is currently holding the Presidency over the BCM. After the meeting, the Prime Ministers plan to visit the Baltic Defence College.

Lithuania is going to take over the Presidency over the BCM in 2009.

Kirkilas returns to Vilnius on Friday evening. During the visit, Kirkilas will be replaced by acting Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas.
