During the World Economic Forum, the President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus met with Paul Mountford, one of the managers of “Cisco Systems”, Christian Clausen, President and CEO of Nordea Bank, and philanthropist George Soros.

During his conversation with Paul Mountford, Lithuania’s President underlined the crucial importance of making use of the know-how of leading hi-tech companies. According to the Head of State, Lithuania makes efficient use of the EU Structural Funds allocated for the development of internet access and has started an ambitious education and studies reform.

“Lithuania has demonstrated a resolve to go forward, and this opens up vast opportunities for investments by hi-tech companies,” President Adamkus said.

In the meeting with Mr. Clausen, President of one of the largest banks in Scandinavia which operates in Lithuania too, Lithuania’s President pointed out the decreasing volumes of business financing.  According to the President, this causes concerns as it leads to slower economic growth. President Adamkus urged to make more investment in Lithuania and to relocate more financial and administrative operations here.

In his meeting with philanthropist G. Soros, Lithuania’s leader talked about the global financial and economic situation and shared his views about the likely impact of the economic recession on the Baltic region.
