President Adamkus to attend Annual Meeting of UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors in Paris

President Valdas Adamkus left for a two-day working visit to Paris to attend the Annual Meeting of UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador.
 
In Paris, Valdas Adamkus will meet the Director-General of UNESCO, Mr. Koïchiro Matsuura, to discuss the challenges arising at the time of global crisis to UNESCO's educational, scientific and cultural goals. Among the other issues on their meeting agenda are the reforms and programmes implemented during Mr. Koïchiro Matsuura's term in office, Lithuania's activities within UNESCO, and new directions for cooperation.

Wednesday evening, the President of Lithuania will host a reception at the Maison de l'UNESCO where he will introduce the joint candidate of the three Baltic States for the post of Director-General of UNESCO: Ambassador Ina Marčiulionytė, Lithuania's Permanent Delegate to UNESCO.

On May 14, Thursday, President Adamkus, Goodwill Ambassador since 2003 for the Construction of Knowledge Societies, will deliver a speech at the Annual Meeting of Goodwill Ambassadors. He will speak about UNESCO's role in a world under global crisis, share Lithuania's experience in building knowledge society, and discuss the tools for creating a global knowledge society.

Valdas Adamkus will return to Vilnius Thursday late night.
