Incumbent and former heads of state, politicians and diplomats offer condolences to the people og Lithuania on the passing of President A. M. Brazauskas

Following the death of President Algirdas Mykolas Brazauskas, on 28 June Lithuanian Embassies abroad opened the door for people, who want to sign the Condolence Book.

Prime Minister of Estonia Andrus Ansip, Ambassadors of Finland, Italy, Latvia, Moldova, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Sweden, and the U.S.A, who reside in Estonia, Estonian public figures, and members of the Lithuanian community in Estonia, signed the Condolence Book at Lithuania’s Embassy in Estonia already on the first day.

Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to the Russian Federation Tomas Bertelman was the first to sign the Condolence Book at the Embassy of Lithuania in Moscow. The Ambassador highlighted that Europe had lost a brave and far-sighted politician.

“Lithuania has lost an eminent personality, who fathered the new philosophy of freedom and independence, and thus contributed to human civilization. I bow my head before this prominent man of great political talent, and offer my sincere condolences to the people of Lithuania and to the Brazauskas family,” Ukraine’s first President Leonid Kravchuk wrote in the Condolence Book at the Lithuanian Embassy in Ukraine.

Supreme Rada Deputy Oleksandr Turchinov sent his condolences to the people of Lithuania on behalf of Ukraine’s former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko Electoral Bloc and the All-Ukrainian Union Fatherland party (Batkivshchina).

At the Lithuanian Embassy in Moldova, the first President of Moldova Mircea Snegur offered his condolences on the passing of Lithuania’s former President.
