Modernisation of Polish ports
The major seaports at Gdansk, Gdynia and Szczecin, as part of the modernisation of their infrastructure, will spend PLZ 3.3 billion on construction work over the next five years. They are reported to be currently seeking small contractors to carry out work that includes building cargo terminals. "Our port is a business incubator. It is a place where small- and medium- size companies should prosper. The port authorities should help them to do that," said Krzysztof Zyndul, marketing director at Szczecin- Swinoujscie seaport. The construction work in Szczecin and Swinoujscie will be financed in part from a USD 11 million World Bank loan. "We are spending PLZ 30 million a year on the project," Zyndul added. Spokesman for the port of Gdansk, Jaroslaw Dutkowski, explained that, "In the case of the cargo terminals at Gdansk we have decided that the investors would be firms with cargo to handle at the port, as this would ensure that the terminals are used at the proper level."
