95% Latvia's Transit is Westbound
Last year the Latvian ports collectively handled 52 mil tons of cargo. Taking into account Latvia does not either import much for its own use or export much of its own manufacture, a lion's share of the coutry's traffic flow is transit. 95% of cargoes crossing Latvia are westbound, coming from the East, while only 5% are eastbound. According to the estimation given by the head of the trade delegates of the Russian Federation in Latvia Evgeny Tikhonov, the designated 5% are primarily represented by containerised cargo, in which autohauliers have their major interest.
