Estonia to participate in EU battle groups

Estonia will participate in the European Union's (EU) battle groups that will be deployed in the future for the regulation of different crises. At the military capabilities conference, that took place in the framework of the EU General Affairs and External Relations Council in Brussels, the Defence Ministers gave an overview of the participation of member states in the EU battle groups. Estonian Ambassador and Representative to the Political and Security Committee Tõnis Idarand confirmed, that Estonia has supported the formation of the battle groups from the beginning and has decided to participate in them. "Battle groups will have a very high readiness, being ready for deployment within 5 to 15 days following a decision, setting very high requirements for them. Estonia is currently considering its possibilities and holding cooperation talks with suitable partners," said Idarand. The participation of member countries in different spheres was discussed. Estonia will give its contribution. Foreign Minister Kristiina Ojuland said Estonia was ready send police, rescue service, border guard and state of law experts to the battle groups.
