AZLK automotive plant in Moscow, one of the largest Russian car manufacturers, announced cooperation with Intel in the field of automotive electronics. According to the agreement, i582-L processor (the industrial version of Pentium III) will be applied in the control and navigation system of the future AZLK vehicle. "Alexander Nevsky", the new VIP class model, is currently being designed by AZLK together with German technical bureau Trauschen und Froppen GmbH. Plans call for its first presentation at Moscow Motor Show 2000, and for beginning of volume production in 2001.Operation of all the systems of the new vehicle will be controlled by on-board computer based on Intel_s i582-L. It will also be able to operate as GPS terminal. Once commercial exploitation of PanEuropean Road Control system begins, the computer will perform navigation functions, too. Facilities for the first stage of that project are now under construction in Moscow and St.Petersburg.
