Oak Technology, a provider of optical storage controllers to OEMs, has completed a royalty-bearing licensing arrangement with Matsushita Electronics Corporation, a Japanese semiconductor manufacturer, for CD-ROM drives. Matsushita intends to develop highly integrated, low-cost CD-ROM drive controllers based on an enhanced version of Oak_s latest OTI-9150 patented CD-ROM controller core, device drivers, and firmware. "The licensing arrangement with Matsushita enables us to realize added value from our CD-ROM controller IP, while our Optical Storage Group focuses its development efforts on next-generation optical storage technologies like CD-RW and DVD," says Richard Black, president of Oak Technology.
