Quanta Aims To Be World_s No. 1 Notebook PC Maker

What do IBM, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Apple and Siemens have in common? Some of their notebook computers are supplied by Taiwan_s Quanta Computer Inc. Quanta chairman Barry Lam Wednesday painted a rosy future for the company, saying it_s high growth should continue and the firm hopes to be the world_s largest notebook producer in 2000. "We aim to keep our high growth, upgrade our market share step by step, and to be the world_s No. 1 notebook computer maker in 2000," Lam told a news briefing in Quanta_s new plant in Linkou, a suburb of Taipei. Lam said Quanta will continue to focus on being the original design manufacturing supplier to the leading computer brands rather than develop its own brand. "We will promote the turtle spirits -- conservative but solidly persistent in upgrading our quality and striving for more ODM orders," Lam said.
