The book of memories “Be nutylėjimų” (Without Reticence) by the President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus was published in Latvia. The foreword of the book was written by Latvia's Ex-president Vaira Vike-Freiberga and the present President Valdis Zatlers.

According to President V. Vike-Freiberga, it was especially interesting to learn her former counterpart's attitude and opinion about the historical events witnessed by both of them. “We both, as former exiles, have experienced deeply and appreciated the freedom regained by our countries, and we were both active fighters for democracy and the rule of law in our countries. Together we were defending the right and the possibility of Latvia and Lithuania to join the European Union, together we were fighting hard so that our states are safe and protected by NATO. Together we supported a closer cooperation between our linguists, scientists, sportsmen, and the general public, and for me our personal relations have always been interesting and pleasant,” Latvia's Ex-president writes in the foreword.

President V. Zatlers writes that Valdas Adamkus is an example of a patriot of his country who has managed to reconcile the traditional values and what is modern and innovative.

According to Latvia's Head of State, Latvians know V. Adamkus as a strong defender of the Baltic unity. “The cornerstone of our relations is the conviction that successes of one Baltic state also belong to another Baltic state. In critical moments, Lithuania and President Adamkus took the stand which promoted the implementation of foreign policy goals of our countries and strengthened the partnership among the Baltic countries,” President Valdis Zatlers recalls.

Latvia's Head of State underlined that their personal relations were friendly, constructive, open and reciprocal from the very first meeting. “As the heads of states and patriots of our nations we can discuss and exchange views about international political issues, and we can equally talk about what is most important for our people at a given moment, ” writes the present Latvia's President in the foreword.

One publishing-house in Poland plans to publish another book written by President Adamkus which tells the story of the Adamkus's family. The book is a compilation of extracts from the President Adamkus's book of memories “Likimo vardas – Lietuva” (Name of the Fate – Lithuania) and the book “Alma”; it also contains several speeches by the President of the Republic of Lithuania.

The President's book “Likimo vardas – Lietuva” has already been translated into the Japanese language.
