CEBIT 99: a new generation of Internet access solutions

Hannover, March 18, 1999 - ZyXEL Communications Corporation today announced it will exhibit a new generation of Internet access solutions for the booming SOHO and SMB users at CEBIT 99. The booth is designed with three areas of focus to better demonstrate each of ZyXEL_s Internet access solutions. The new generation of networking technologies from ZyXEL, include the Prestige 1000, 400, and 200 series access routers, as well as the omni.net LCD series of ISDN terminal adapters, provide complete solutions for Internet access. Capitalizing on ZyNOS™, the powerful networking operation system embedded in ZyXEL_s routers, enhances the price/performance of the entire network, permitting easier configuration, more reliable operation, and future upgrade ability of ZyXEL_s router product lines. Centered on leading VPN (Virtual Private Network) and Firewall solutions tailored to the needs of a medium business, ZyXEL_s Prestige 1000 series incorporates industry standard IPSec (IP Security) and L2TP (Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol) to satisfy business_ essential requirements for secure, reliable Extranet applications. Integrated firewall extends network protection to business users, provide a level of security that was price prohibitive previously. As the first product in ZyXEL_s Prestige 1000 series, the Prestige 1020 provides dual LAN capability as well as two modular slots for interchangeable WAN cards. Dual 10/100M LAN capability is designed for today_s business Internet environment: one for public Internet access and the other for private Intranet access. With an embedded RISC CPU, the Prestige 1020 can perform DES encryption for complete security protection as well as support multiple access technologies such as T1/E1, ISDN, and xDSL. Targeting the SMB market segment, ZyXEL_s new Prestige 400 router series employs the latest networking technologies to facilitate a flexible and high performance Internet access solution. In CEBIT 99, ZyXEL exhibits the Prestige 480 which represents the industry_s first router equipped with dual ISDN BRI and 10/100M Ethernet support. This unparalleled design enables transmission speeds of up to 256Kbps or even higher with compression enabled. With this broadband solution, businesses can enjoy the ISDN highway through dynamic bandwidth optimization while significantly minimizing their costs compared with conventional Fractional T1/E1 solutions. Elaborating on ZyXEL_s award-winning Prestige 100 series, ZyXEL will roll out the new Prestige 200 router series for today_s fast-changing network environment. All the new Prestige 200 series routers are equipped with a full-duplex auto-sensing 10/100M Ethernet LAN port which significantly improves the performance of LAN. With this new feature, ZyXEL_s new Prestige 200 enables multiple users to share an ISDN line easily to the Internet. The Prestige 204, with a 4-port 10/100M hub and a print server built-in, is designed to allow SOHO users to share printers and, most importantly, share Internet and remote corporate network access. Supporting the latest Home Phoneline Networking Alliance (HomePNA) standard, ZyXEL introduces its new Prestige 206, which permits home users to build up their home network without needing extra wiring in their homes. Aimed at today_s trend toward broadband communication, the Prestige 220_s 10/100Mbps Ethernet interface provides a high performance LAN environment for SOHO users while the 10Mbps WAN port allows installation of today_s most popular cable or ADSL modems. Other broadband solutions from ZyXEL_s Prestige 200 router series include the Prestige 240 ADSL router and Prestige 290 cable modem router, which enables SOHO to enjoy fast transmission speeds of more than 100 times faster than conventional analog modems.
