Madonna and Guy 'tie the knot'

Published: 23 December 2000 y., Saturday
Despite the attentions of a determined press pack, the ceremony is thought to have taken place in private at Skibo Castle on Friday evening. There is still no official confirmation about whether a ceremony has taken place at the exclusive retreat in Sutherland. But BBC Scotland's Craig Anderson said: "We understand that Madonna and Guy Ritchie have been married. We think the wedding ceremony started at about 1800 this evening." Stars started to arrive at the castle during the afternoon, with rock star Sting the first to be snapped by the assembled gathering of more than 100 members of the paparazzi, fans and media. Stella McCartney, who designs for Paris fashion house Chloe, is believed to have created Madonna's wedding dress. The roll-call of famous names tipped to attend the ceremony included Hollywood heart-throb George Clooney, and movie stars Robin Williams, Rupert Everett and Brad Pitt. Rock stars Jon Bon Jovi and Bryan Adams were both spotted flying in to Inverness Airport for the event.
