The Scandinavian-American Foundation’s new headquarters opening this fall in NYC sounds really exciting. Opening day is in fact October 17, the beginning of a new phase in the ASF’s mission of "presenting Scandinavian culture and achievements, economic and political issues and many other facets of life in the Nordic countries to a varied and often influential American audience," as the ASF’s web site explains. Together with Denmark, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, Finland is a member of the Nordic Council, that good-neighbourly body that brings together the politicians and the peoples of the five countries that have much in common in terms of values and way of life. You can read more about Scandinavia House and the aims and ideals of the ASF on the foundation’s Internet pages.The first exhibition will be staged at the new Nordic center in Manhattan. It will present the work of young designers from the five Nordic countries, items ranging from jewellery to industrial products. Each of the five nations will be represented by about ten designers, each allowed to display a maximum of three works.
