MTV Launches Its First Chinese-Language Site.

MTV has launched its first Chinese-language Web site, to complement its new MTV Mandarin strand. The site (www.mtvchinese.com), a joint venture with Asian Internet content-provider Tricast, carries music news, interviews, reviews, information on music products, and online chat channels. It will also feature news on music-related events in Beijing and Shanghai, as well as in Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan. "As Asian audiences become more Internet-savvy, they are beginning to demand greater localized content depth," says Paul Meyers, GM of MTV Asia Online and CEO of Tricast.According to MTV Networks Asia senior VP Richard Cunningham, MTV hopes the site will generate revenues from advertisers targeting the region_s 15-34-year-olds.
