The Icelandic comedy 101 Reykjavik by the director B. Kormakur will open the October programme of the Nordic Film Club. “This witty, original and stylish comedy is a breath of fresh air”, the critics commented, when the film was released. The main character of the film is thirty-year-old Hlynur, who still lives with his mother and doesn’t bother finding a job. He spends his days drinking in the bars, watching porn and surfing the net. Hlynur’s world doesn’t reach outside the old part of the city, which has a postcode 101 Reykjavik.
His mother's Spanish flamenco teacher, Lola, moves in with them. When it’s minus 30 degrees outside and only five hours of sunshine, Hlynur goes for another wild night. However, he soon finds out that he and his mother are sharing more than a house. Hlynur’s easy-going life turns upside down.
The second film of the month is the Danish thriller The Candidate (Kandidaten). The film will be screened on October 21st at 5.10 p.m.
