Phenomena of Harry Potter

Published: 30 July 2004 y., Friday

“My name is Potter, Harry Potter“– we just can imagine such presentation of the famous literature and movie hero in, let’s say, 36 part of the “Potteriology”. Then he will be an adult, handsome man, a world champion of a quidditch for a 9 times and, off course, the most useful final’s player, no woman could resist his charming magic, and a number of beaten enemies will be longer than the fifth book about Harry Potter.

World recognition of Daniel Radcliff – Harry Potter’s image in real life – proves a reality of such script; Daniel says he would like to support … James Bond. “I’m playing heroes since I was eleven” – there won’t be many competitors at an actors’ run having such line in the CV.

Children of the whole world (and not only them) have a new hero since Harry Potter went down the books’ shelves in 1997. He doesn’t look like the other XXI century’s heroes of Hollywood; he doesn’t smoke, bicker and doesn’t drive Ferrari in a crazy way of “the fast and furious”. But he is only “teen” and he drives his broom faster than Vin Diesel, he uses a magic stick in lieu of fists and eats delicious beans.

Therefore millions of the world’s rubbernecks divinify him.

An answer why Harry Potter is so famous among people probably is in his similarity to everybody. Every boy (youngster, man…) envisages in him himself or somebody, whom he always wanted to be. Each girl (woman) sees in him the hero of her dreams.

Maybe they will be talking about Harry Potter, that he is a kind of culture phenomena – a combination of the cultures of XXI century and magic middle ages.

The “mum“of the magic child is J.K.Rowling – the most popular and richest writer after her “child” was born. She was traveling to London on a crowded train when the idea of Harry Potter came into her head (this story has already become a legend). She started to write down the experience of a young sorcerer to separate forms in one of England’s café. There were times when Joanne paid for a tea out of her relief and now her fee seeks millions, and Prince Charles is one of the writer’s friends.

“I never thought, that Harry Potter could save me and my daughter“, – said the writer remembering a hard life after her daughter was born.

The history if Harry Potter began with the first book “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” in 1997. A story about poor eleven-year-old boy is illustrated in the book. The boy gets a letter with an invitation to study in a magic school. Everything changes in the boy’s life as it changes for thousand children of the world; they’ve got a new hero. 5 books about Harry Potter already exist and the name of the last one is “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix“.

The image of Harry Potter in the movie - Daniel Alan Radcliff – is a lamb child in family of Alan and Marcia Gresham. Therefore J.K.Rowling confessed after he saw the boy at the casting that he imagined Harry Potter exactly the way Daniel looks like.

Remembering the first movie’s “Harry Potter and Philosopher’s Stone“casting producer Chris Columbus said: “We had to begin shooting the movie in September and we didn’t have a Harry Potter. It seemed that such a boy didn’t exist at all. But when we saw Daniel, we understood, – finally... The same feelings perceived after we saw future Hermione and Ronny.“

An actor searching for Harry Potter’s role lasted for 9 months, and to casting in USA and Great Britain came over 16.000 boys. The first part of the movie was very successful, only in United States an income from 3 days’ distribution was 93,5 millions dollars.

Everybody has already forgotten the first two movies and now going crazy about of the third one – “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban“. The movie’s European Premiere took place in London on the 4 of June, and Lithuanians could see the movie from the 25 of June.
