The Internet is Available at the Seaside, too...

Published: 11 July 2000 y., Tuesday
On the 7th of July in the House of Culture in Nida another Internet café of the JSC “Penki kontinentai” was established. The establishment of the café coincided with the celebration of the National holiday. We may rejoice at achievements Lithuania has made from the day of the coronation of Mindaugas. In Lithuania, though a little bit slowly, new technologies appear. And not only those, which help to fulfill unlimited human opportunities, but which give an opportunity to spend leisure somehow differently, too. The first Internet café in the world was established in London in 1994. In a very short time the Internet café became very popular in the other European cities, mostly in the capitals. Thus, now it is possible to drink coffee, eat biscuits and enjoy the huge flow of information and entertainment simultaneously.

The first Internet café of JSC “Penki kontinentai” was established on the 11th of January, 2000 in the Lithuania National Drama Theatre (Vilnius, Gedimino pr.4). And in a very short time it waited for the visitors who were willing to receive and send the electronic letters, to scan or print some beautiful pictures. In spring the company established small café in its trade department. (Vilnius, A. Stulginskio g.5) When the summer came it became actual to establish the café at the seaside .For this purpose Nida was chosen — the most popular health resort of Lithuania. At last the Internet lovers can easily go to spend their holidays near the coast of the sea not loosing connection to vitally important information and entertainment network. The experts of JSC “Penki kontinentai” and Stasys Mikelis, mayor of Nida, have already opened the road to the Internet for the local inhabitants of Nida. During the first days the most faithful lovers of the Internet, who came from the other towns and the local inhabitants interested in the new technologies and who had not the access to the internet until now gathered. In the House of Culture “Agila” 7 working places are available. There you will work with ‘Intel Pentium II" or with “Celeron” computers ( processor 400 or 500 MHz, 64 MB RAM, DIM memory, 16 MB „TNT2 Riva“ or „Adrenalinrush“, sound card 64bites, „ MS Windows 98“ installed). So, using that equipment you may easily browse in the Internet, receive and send e-mail, listen music, play computer games... If you would like to print the received letter or any information you have found in the Internet you can use laser printer „HP Lazer Jet 1100“ that stands just there. Or if you would like to send your friend a picture by e-mail you can use scanner „Umax Astra 2000 P“.

Soon “Axis“ Internet camera will be attached. It will transmit the view of the Internet café to the Internet to the address http://camera.5ci.lt, so your friends will be able to watch you having a rest in the Internet café. In the Internet café you may also enjoy the world of virtual reality – we offer you one place that is equipped with the steering-wheel ( “Dexxa”). The Internet café in Nida works every day from 10 a.m. till the midnight. Lunch break is from 13 p.m till 16 p.m, and when the weather is rainy we of course shorten our lunch break in order not to let the holidaymakers the to be bored. You can get more information having visited the Internet café in Nida. Or if there is something you would like to know just now send us e-mail: nida@ic.lt.
