The Lithuanian Days in Miyazaki

On August 12-16 the Miyazaki city community will have a rare chance to discover a distant country of the Baltic Sea, Lithuania. This year, Lithuania celebrates the Millennium of its first mention in written sources. Lithuania is part of European Union since 2004. the capital city of Lithuania, Vilnius this year has been designated as the European Capital of Culture 2009.

The Lithuanian Days at Miyazaki City Shimin Bunka Hall will feature different aspects of the Lithuanian culture:
- aerial photo exhibition Unseen Lithuania by Marius Jovaisa
- creative workshops for children
- exposition of Lithuanian art and photo books
- some Lithuanian food testing at the Lithuanian cafe
- the highlight of the Lithuanian Days will be Lithuanian piano duo of Ruta and Zbignevas Ibelhauptas recital on August 13 and a gala concert with Miyazaki Junior Orchestra and performance of the new age musicale 'Pixy Prophesy“ by Miyazaki resident David Kerrison on August 16.

The Lithuanian Fair is a part of the Miyazaki International Youth Musical Festival 2009, as well part of a cultural events program launched by the Lithuanian Embassy in Tokyo this year to mark the Millennium of Lithuania and ”Vilnius - European Capital of Culture 2009“.

Miyazaki International Youth Musical Festival has a primal aim to offer unique opportunity for the young people to experience the joy of creation through the joint activities with national and international professionals in the fields of music, dance and visual arts.

The events of the Lithuanian Days are organized by Miyazaki International Youth Musical Festival 2009 Executive Committee in co-operation with the Lithuanian Embassy in Japan, sponsored by EU-Japan Fest Japan Committee, Lithuanian Culture Support Fund, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and supported by local organizations and volunteers. The Lithuanian Days is an initiative of the Miyazaki city cultural community.

Charge d'Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Lithuania in Japan, Ms. Birute Abraitiene is to attend the opening of the Lithuanian Fair on August 12, at 16 hrs. Same day a courtesy call to Vice-governor of Miyazaki prefecture, Mr. Shunji Kono is scheduled.
The Lithuanian Days in Miyazaki is expected to become the start of the bilateral exchanges in the fields of culture, education, tourism between Miyazaki and Lithuanian regions.
