President of the International Fund of Cosmonautics support Joseph Davydov said at a press-conference in the Central of House of Journalists (Moscow) on April 9 that the construction of the Yuri Gagarin Space Station would require 3-3.5 years. The cost of the project will make up $3.5-4 billion.
The new Space Station will be aimed at the "protection of the Earth's inhabitants from cosmic and natural disasters". The creators say that cosmonauts will be required to come to the station from time to time but in most cases it will operate automatically.
On the surface, the Yuri Gagarin Space Station will not be similar to any other existing stations. Joseph Davydov believes that the Yuri Gagarin's launch will elevate the authority of Russia in the world and give a solution to many worldly problems.
Joseph Davydov also said that Russian President of the Chamber of Commerce and Trade Evgeny Primakov was appointed chief of the National trustee council for the project preparation.
