Physician seeks to prevent from cancroid via the web

Published: 27 August 2003 y., Wednesday
On the initiative of Laimonas Jazukevièius, the Doctor of the Medicine sciences, the web site www.odosnavikai.lt on the skin diseases and prophylaxis thereof was launched. The doctor says there are lots of people with such a diagnosis in Lithuania and all over the world, but there is very little information on it available. Last year 1.3 millions of new desease cases were registered in USA only. Internet is a quite cheap and affordable medium to inform the people. It is very important to kow that the cancroid can be cured if diagnosed in the earliest stage. In more than 97 % of cases, when the diagnosis in the earliest stage is made, the ilness is treatable. The web site was created by the programmers of Penki kontinentai, UAB and the designers of Lietaus dizainas, UAB. The web site presents much information on cancroid: desease features, risk, prophylaxis, treatment. Many of photos made by the doctor are presented as well. The doctor browses internet and communicates via e-mail daily. According to him cooperation via e-mail has already helped the patients. Having taken a photo of the suspected part of the skin and having e-mailed it to the doctor, he or she can receive an advice. Furthermore, such kind of the consultation is free-of charge. Besides, more and more people begin using digital cameras and mobile phones, with which they could make a photo. Such a mobile phone is an especially convenient mean for this purpose. Photo taken with it can be immediately sent by MMS. The web site www.odosnavikai.lt is constantly updated. L. Jazukevièius will update the web site himself using web site content and structure management system „I-manager“ on which the web site is built. This system gives opportunity to update the web site via the internet anytime nd anywhere. Both patients and physiians will find useful information at the web site. From the section „Varia“ you can download much information on the deaseases. Stuff on the dermoscopy is one of the most significant. Dr. L. Jazukevièius lectures the dermoscopy course in Vilnius University. This method of treatment is not frequently used in Lithuania, but is very effective. Soon it is expected to crete a CD „Melanoma ABCD“ („Black cancer ABCD“), which will be destined for the visual diagnostics of melanoma. Physicians as well as general practitioners, dermatologists, oncologists, etc. could be interested in this CD. Also society as „Black cancer ABCD“ is primary destined for the early diagnostics of the desease. *** This is the second medicine related project of Penki kontinentai group. Skaineta, a company of the group, has connected a polyclinic of Ðeðkinë (Vilnius micro district) to fast internet connection network "Skynet" and provides free-of-charge internet services for this institution. 90 computers are currently operating there. Polyclinic staff is very glad of having a possibility to find lots of information on the web, as well as to communicate with the physicians through the network and to consult the patients. Videoconferences via the polyclinics of Ðeðkinë and Santariðkës micro districts have already passed successfully, via the network exchange the physicians significant information about the patients. "Skynet" network members can communicate with the doctors via the network as well as make a free-of-charge call using IP telephony services. This project is a remarkable example of the e- medicine. By the means of the web cameras, the patients could always be under the distant care of physicians.
