Anonymous Begins Attacks on Spanish Police Websites

Published: 14 June 2011 y., Tuesday

You didn’t expect Anonymous to take the recent Spanish police action against them lying down, did you? The website for Spain’s national police was knocked offline late Sunday night. While the authorities did not release any details, a site connected to Anonymous claimed responsibility. According to the site, OpPolicia is on.

The posting (presumably from elements of Anonymous) said that a DDoS attack was carried out against the national police website was targeted as retaliation for recent arrests of alleged Anonymous members. Anonymous contends that DDoS attacks constitute legitimate and peaceful protest. The police likely disagree.

Additionally, the Anonymous statement makes it clear the individuals arrested were not part of the “core” of the group because there is no “core” in Anonymous. Do you think this was a one off, or will the policia continue to be targets?
