Fixed-line monopoly Czech Telecom began offering long-distance calls over the Internet on Wednesday below rates offered by local mobile phone operators in similar programs.

Telecom_s mobile phone unit Eurotel and its main competitor RadioMobil currently offer long-distance Internet calls at below the monopoly_s fixed-line rates.Telecom Sales and Marketing Director Kamil Cermak told a news conference the new service willincorporate a system from American based Ursus Telecom allowing Internet calls to 13 countries. Telecom said it was not considering lowering its present fixed-line tariffs.
