Ukrainian telco company puts its own international channel into operation.

Ukrainian telco operator IP Telecom announced completion of testing its new international channel towards Russia and proceeding to its commercial operation. The capacity of the new channel is 2048 Kbps, with only 1024 Kbps being available at the first stage and expansion for the full capacity being postponed for the future. Thus, another first-tier Internet provider has appeared in Ukraine. The company has its own base network in Kiev (the capital of the country) and vast dial-up facilities, with all modems supporting 56 Kbps protocols. The total capacity of the uplink channels, utilized by IP Telecom, has now achiewed 4 Mbps. The channel is based on landline communication with MTU-Intel, one of the major Russian networking and telco providers. IP Telecom expects to obtain the status of LIR (Local Internet Registry) by late September.
