The Nordic project

Published: 4 June 1999 y., Friday
In a move to promote their culture worldwide, a new Saami website was launched in March. The website was inaugurated with a direct Internet broadcast featuring sound and pictures from the cultural ministers_ meeting in Copenhagen. The Saami website is a new meeting place for Saamis, as well as a global forum for indigenous people and issues. The Internet provides these minorities with increased opportunities to convey uncensored information and to edit and convey news on objective, journalistic principles. The Nordic Council of Ministers has allocated DKK 1 million to the project. The Saami radio stations in Norway and Sweden are behind this effort.
