The combined solution

Published: 8 August 2001 y., Wednesday
Building on a long history of collaboration between IBM and Virage, Inc. a leading provider of video management and publishing solutions, Virage announced that the companies have signed a marketing and resale agreement. IBM will integrate and resell Virage technology, combining Virage's leading video ingest and cataloging components with IBM's large enterprise digital Content Manager offering - IBM Media Production Suite. The combined solution will allow content owners to easily and efficiently manage, archive, and distribute digital video assets. IBM has recognized Virage as a key component to ingesting video into its Media Production Suite, a flexible, browser-based, fully integrated solution that allows companies to manage, archive, reproduce, assemble, and distribute video assets in one comprehensive digital production environment. IBM has been commissioned to transform over 120,000 hours of analog video archive at world class news organization CNN, as was previously announced, with Virage technology integrated into that digital transformation system. IBM also included integration of Virage technologies into IBM's media asset solution created for Paramount Picture's hit television show ET. IBM assisted ET in transferring its then current, analog tape archive to a fully digitized collection that includes descriptive information about the video footage, enabling easy search and retrieval capabilities-an example of how Virage's video content solutions were successfully employed. IBM will use the award-winning Virage VideoLogger software and Virage SmartEncode process to transform incoming video into a structured database that provides granular access into video content and readies it for strategic applications online. The combined system gives media companies the ability to share, reuse, and re-purpose valuable media assets for increased production efficiencies and revenue generation.
