A new undersecretary of tye Ministry starts her duties

On 17 February Ambassador Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė started her duties as a new Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania.

Undersecretary A.Skaisgirytė Liauškienė will be in charge of the issues of economic diplomacy, Lithuania‘s foreign trade policy, export and investments. The new member of the administration will also be responsible for the development of relations with the countries of South America, Asia and Oceania and the activities of honorary consuls.

Prior to this appointment, since 2006 A.Skaisgirytė Liauškienė was ambassador of Lithuania to Israel.

Born on 20 March 1966, A.Skaisgirytė Liauškienė graduated from the Philology Faculty of Vilnius University in 1989 and studied international relations at the International Institute of Public Administration in France from 1992 to 1993.

A.Skaisgirytė Liauškienė joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania in 1993, worked for the Western European Division of the Policy Department in 1993–1994 and was the head of the Nordic Division of the same department in 1994–1995. In 1995–1998 A.Skaisgirytė Liauškienė was counsellor for international relations to the Government of Lithuania, in 1998–2003 she was ambassador of Lithuania to France and was also accredited to the Republic of Tunisia. In 2003 A.Skaisgirytė Liauškienė was appointed as the Ambassador-at-Large of the European Department and in 2003–2006 she held the position of Director of the Personnel Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
