US congressman to address congress on Lthuanian Independence Day.

A speech is to be made by US Congressman John M.Shimkus at the Congress on the occasion of February 16 which is marked in Lithuania as Independence Restoration Day, according to Chicago-based Lithuanian emigrant daily Draugas (Friend). The paper wrote that it was the Lithuanian Republican League of Illinois which asked Shimkus to address the Congress on February 16. Shimkus_ discourse is expected to spell out a strong support for the accession of Lithuania to NATO, the need to cement trade relations between US and Lithuania, and American investments in the Lithuanian economy. The speech of US congressman is to be broadcast on CSpan cable TV station.
