On the night of 25 July in Minsk, an act of vandalism was carried out against the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to the Republic of Belarus. Lithuanian Ambassador to Belarus Edminas Bagdonas lodged a protest with the officials of Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, requiring ascertaining the situation, finding the perpetrators and taking measures in order to secure the immunity of the Lithuanian Embassy and preventing breaching any rules of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations in the future.
Because of the violation of the immunities of the diplomatic mission that are granted by the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, documents are temporarily not accepted at the Consular Division of the Lithuanian Embassy to Belarus. The suspension will last until the situation is examined.
Consular assistance will continue to be provided to Lithuanian citizens.
