According to the 2008 October public poll results, 75 percent of respondents were in favour of Lithuania’s membership of the European Union, 15 percent were against, and 10 percent were undecided regarding the issue.
If compared to the previous poll figures in July, this is a change for the better. Only 69.2 of respondents had then indicated that they were positive about Lithuania‘s membership, with 15.9 being negative.
Lithuanian people have been optimistic about the country’s EU membership of the European Union since the very accession date in 2004. Lithuania’s membership is most favourable viewed by people age 18-49 with higher education, young people and specialists. Those who are against mostly include people aged 70 (or more) with elementary or unfinished secondary education, and the unemployed.
