Baltic energy security on the meetings’ agenda

Published: 28 January 2009 y., Wednesday

Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius, who is on his official visit to Estonia, has met with Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves and Speaker of the Estonian Parliament Ene Ergma today and agreed on the vital need for the Baltic unity in pursuance of successful response to the current regional economic and energy challenges.

Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius and Speaker of Parliament Ene Ergma have expressed confidence that crimes of communism against humanity must be appropriately evaluated on the European level as well. They have also agreed that the Baltic States will jointly organise the 20th anniversary of the Baltic Road.

Both Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves and Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius have agreed that the current situation in our energy resources market calls for an immediate implementation of joint energy projects. The Lithuanian Prime Minister and the Estonian President have expressed their conformity to speed up the energy projects: the new Visaginas Nuclear Power Plant, the link with Sweden, and the single Baltic energy market. “Not only would this reinforce our energy security, but it would also facilitate Baltic integration in the European energy systems”, remarked Andrius Kubilius.
