Consultations of the Lithuanian and Ukrainian Foreign Ministries took place in Kyiv

On 10 June, Political Director of Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Eitvydas Bajarūnas took part in the political consultations with officials from the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry in Kyiv.

During the consultations, E.Bajarūnas and Director-General of the Directorate General for Political Affaires of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine Sergiy Reva discussed important issues of security policy, Lithuania’s readiness to chair the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in 2011, Ukraine’s European integration, relations with NATO and regional cooperation.

During the visit to Kyiv, E.Bajarūnas also met with Olha Bodnar, Chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Seimas (Parliament) of the Republic of Lithuania, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee for European Integration Boris Tarasyuk, former Foreign Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Ohryzko, Director of Energy Programmes at the Razumkov Centre Volodymyr Saprykin, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Pavlo Klimkin, Special Representative of Ukraine for Transnistrian Settlement Viktor Kryzhanivskyi, First Deputy Chief of Central Administrative Board of International Policy of the President's Administration Yevhen Burkat, Director of the Foreign Policy Aspects Department of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Alexander Puhlyak and Mayor of Ivano-Frankovsk Victor Anushkevich.

During the meetings, opinions were exchanged on Ukraine’s internal and foreign policies, Ukraine-EU relations, Ukraine’s participation in the EU’s Eastern Partnership initiative, NATO and regional security policy, cooperation within international organizations, neighbourly relations with countries in the region, bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and Ukraine, as well as preparations for the official visit of Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Kostyantyn Gryshchenko  to Lithuania on 17-18 June.

E.Bajarūnas presented the priorities of Lithuania’s Chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in 2011 to the Ukrainian officials and discussed the organization’s role and possibilities to address important international issues.
