On 17 October in Baku, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Vygaudas Ušackas and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov discussed bilateral cooperation, establishment of the Lithuanian-Azerbaijani Intergovernmental Cooperation Commission, promotion of mutual trade and investment, Lithuania’s support in training Azerbaijani specialists, and issues of cultural cooperation.
Ministers V.Ušackas and E.Mammadyarov discussed possibilities of bilateral cooperation when implementing joint civilian projects in Afghanistan’s Ghor Province.
The Ministers discussed European Union’s Eastern Partnership programme and the implementation of the EU Twinning projects by Lithuania’s institutions. In accordance with the Twinning projects, the Seimas (Parliament) of Lithuania and the Special Investigation Service are providing assistance to the Azerbaijani Parliament (the Milli Majlis) and to the Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan.
The EU-Azerbaijan relations, perspectives of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU in the area of energy, as well as energy security issues, the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh, and regional policy were also discussed during the meeting.
