President Dalia Grybauskaitė extended congratulations to President Tarja Kaarina Halonen of Finland on the occasion of Independence Day.

In her message the President emphasized that for many years Lithuania and Finland had been united by open and sincere contacts built on neighborly relations and fostered by joint endeavors within an ever stronger European Union. She pointed out that in the face of many challenges, the common efforts of their two countries were important as never before in reaching out for the ultimate goals - greater well-being and security in the Baltic Sea region.

"Taking the opportunity, I would like to thank you once again for the warm reception during my visit to Finland in October. This visit has reinforced my conviction that we have to strengthen our dialogue and cooperation on issues of importance to us. Only through united efforts can we hope to succeed in delivering common goals and success for ourselves, the region and the whole Europe" the President wrote.
