President Dalia Grybauskaitė extended congratulations to President Valdis Zatlers and the people of Latvia on their national holiday - Independence Day.

"I would like to take this opportunity to once again thank you for the warm reception offered to me in Riga during my first round of foreign visits. This visit and the recent discussion we had within the framework of the Riga Security Conference have further demonstrated that we must stand united when dealing with the common problems faced by the Baltic States. They have also confirmed that we must work together to overcome the economic crisis that affects us all, while at the same time retaining the focus on the implementation of regional projects of great importance to our countries and people," the President wrote in her message of congratulations.

Dalia Grybauskaitė expressed her firm belief that the effective partnership between the two countries, their shared interests, and cooperation based on mutual values and understanding would continue to serve as a strong foundation for the common future perspective of sisterly Baltic nations.
