During his official visit to Latvia, Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius has met with Latvian Prime Minister Ivars Godmanis to discuss plans for stabilization of financial systems and business stimulation. Andrius Kubilius has briefed his counterpart on the financial stability plan developed by the Lithuanian Government as well as economic policy measures for business recovery and continuity.

The Prime Ministers have also had detailed discussions on bilateral energy issues with a particular focus on the necessity for a single Baltic energy market.

Andrius Kubilius has informed Ivars Godmanis about the establishment of the Ministry of the Energy which is expected to get more actively involved in the implementation of the strategic and energy goals: the new Visaginas Nuclear Power Plant, the power bridge between Lithuania and Poland, the link with Sweden, and Lithuania’s membership in the UCTE.

The counterparts have agreed about the letter to the President of the Commission José Manuel Barroso, to be drafted by Latvian and Lithuanian experts to express the agreement of both states about the necessity to have a power link with Sweden, and request the Commission to pay a special attention to this project by ensuring adequate funding for its implementation.
