Entrance into the bloc

Published: 22 June 1999 y., Tuesday
A visiting official of the European Commission heard assurances that new Lithuanian government would make deeds to inform wider the public about the European Union and projected changes in the life of country and its people to follow entrance into the bloc. The government Chancellor Dalia Kutraite-Giedraitiene made this clear during an interview with the chief of Commission_s directorate for the countries of central Europe Catherine Day. The chancellor pledged on behalf of the Cabinet "it paid heed and would to the integration of Lithuania into EU and adhere to continued policies on the issue." Kutraite-Giedraitiene mentioned a few particularly important laws, vital for entering the Union, that have been either passed or were already underway to be enacted before the end of summer. These were Laws on Copyright and Adjacent Rights, medium-term economic strategy, Civil Service, Product Safety and Public Procurement Laws.
