European governments have swiftly and firmly rejected a ceasefire offer from a man thought to be al-Qaeda's leader Osama bin Laden.
The offer of a truce was broadcast in a video tape by Arab news channel Al-Jazeera and secret service officials believe it is indeed bin Laden's voice.
A ceasefire was offered within three months if European countries pulled troops out of Iraq and "stopped attacks on Muslims".
"Stop spilling our blood and then we can stop spilling yours", said the man, who also referred to the 11 September attacks and the attacks in Madrid on 11 March.
