Lithuanian team of five – representatives of the Foreign and National Defence Ministries and Police Department under the Ministry of the Interior – was sent to the EU Observer Mission to Georgia.

Fully manned and equipped Lithuanian team provided with an armoured vehicle by the Lithuanian Armed Forces will conduct observation, analysis and reporting on the current situation in Georgia and keeping up to the six-point agreement, including withdrawal of the Russian Armed Forces.

Another two representatives of the Police Department of Lithuania will work at the mission headquarters in Tbilisi on collection and analysis of information.

Lithuanians deployed to the EU mission will make their efforts to contribute to ensuring enduring stability throughout Georgia, enhancement of confidence and diminishing of hostile actions together with their counterparts from other members of the EU.

The EU Observer Mission was launched on 15 September. It will be joined by over 200 observers from the EU countries and will officially enter into force on 1 October.

The six-point agreement signed on August 12 on diplomatic efforts of the EU remains the backbone of Georgia situation stabilisation.
