On 5 September, heads of foreign representations residing in Lithuania with their spouses and children will travel the roads of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in Belarus.

A page of history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (13th-18th c) is one of the most interesting ones in whole history of Lithuania. The greatest country in Europe in the 15th c is still attracting the attention of most Lithuanians and foreigners. The Radziwill family of high nobility was one of the most influential and mighty families in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and played an important role in the history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

During the trip, members of the diplomatic corpus will be acquainted with the Belarusian Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the cultural heritage of our common history.

Diplomats will visit Lida Castle, which was built by Grand Duke Gedymin and is one of the oldest remaining stone castles. They will see the Mirsky Castle Complex, which is a pearl of Gothic architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage site. The diplomats will also visit Navahrudak, where a well-known poet Adam Mickiewicz was born and grew up.

Diplomats will also visit Niasviž, former residential castle of the Radziwill magnate family. Thanks to the Radziwill family Niasviž became a center of culture in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The first baroque church in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania is also a Radziwill family mausoleum. In this church there are seventy sarcophagi with the remains of Radziwill family members. The one day trip will end in Niasviž, about which many stories and legends are told.

This is the 10th excursion of diplomats, residing in Lithuania. The goal of this trip is to acquaint foreign diplomats with the multiple history of Lithuania and show Lithuania as a country with deep historical traditions, while the millennium anniversary of Lithuania’s name is approaching.

The trip is organised by the State and Diplomatic Protocol Department of Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of Lithuania.
